What To Expect

For over 25 years Open Door has been a lighthouse in this community, sharing Christ's love and message of hope to all. We're confident that you will find a place just for you at Open Door Baptist Church in New Bedford! Here at Open Door, people are finding hope and discovering God's purpose for their life in our uplifting weekly services. We invite you to join us!

How can I find Open Door Baptist Church?

Our church campus is located on the corner of Jouvette and Bonney Street in the south end of New Bedford. As a landmark, the recently built Save-A-Lot shopping center is right across Bonney Street from the church. You can find a detailed map on our website.

When are the services?

The Sunday morning services begin at 10:00 a.m. with age appropriate Sunday School classes. At 11:00 a.m. the morning worship service is held in the main auditorium. Of course the nurseries are also available for the younger ones. The Sunday evening service at 6:00 p.m. is a highlight for many. Always encouraging and challenging, it is a weekly appointment you'll not want to miss!

The Wednesday evening meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. and is also held in the main auditorium. This refreshing time of Bible study is also coupled with a weekly prayer service.

What do I do once I arrive?

Relax! We're here to serve you. If you've arrived in time for Sunday School at 10:00 a.m., our friendly greeters will meet you at the door and help direct you to the appropriate class or service. If you plan to attend only one of our main worship services an usher will help you find a comfortable seat. There are Sunday School classes available for all ages and clean, professional nurseries for infants and toddlers.

Where do I take my children?

Here at Open Door Baptist, we place a huge emphasis on young people. We have carefully planned and prepared to meet the needs of each one of your children. We offer Sunday school classes for the children, and clean professional nurseries for the infants and young toddlers. Children are encouraged to sit with the family during the main service.

 What should I wear?

The truth of the matter is, there is no strict dress code for our public services! We want you to be comfortable and ready to concentrate on the message of God's Word. Many in attendance will be wearing their "Sunday best" - the men in dress shirts and dress slacks, typically with a tie, and the women in appropriate dresses.

What are the services like?

Although there are many things that are wrong in this world, we believe that our God is alive and well. He is a living Savior, and we worship Him with an attitude of victory and thankfulness! The congregation will sing several of the great praise and worship hymns found in the old-fashioned song book. It's not uncommon for folks to lift a hand in worship or lift an extra word of praise to God during the song service. Our Lord is worthy!

We often have special music prepared by a variety of church members to enhance the services. These are also exciting songs that will encourage you and bring honor to Christ.

Prayer is a major part of the services at Open Door. We believe that God does everything in answer to prayer. We'll open the meeting in prayer, and many times will offer prayer for special requests of our church family during the service. If you have a specific prayer request, we'd love to share your burden.

God's Word is the answer to every problem we face. We believe that the Bible preaching is the most important part of every service. God's Word has the power to comfort, correct, instruct, and fix any situation. Our preacher has committed his life to preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and makes no apology for preaching the truth in love.

At the end of the preaching, Pastor Brown will ask everyone to stand and will give an invitation. This is a time for many to respond and make a life-changing decision by walking down the aisle and praying at the altar. A decision may be to trust Jesus Christ as personal Savior or to become a better Christian. Whatever your decision may be, the altar is open to you to join scores of others who are making decisions for Christ.

Be our guest this Sunday!
